Just before 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 5, 2019, a 2001 Chevrolet SUV traveling on Gauthier Road, driven by 31 year old Courtney Vincent of Lake Charles, failed to stop for the stop sign at the intersection at LA Hwy 397.
The Chevrolet was struck by a 2017 Kia Forte driven by 50 year old Leslie J. Lewis of Westlake who was traveling south on Hwy 397.
The Chevrolet ran off the left side of the road, traveled through a ditch and struck a utility pole before rolling over onto its right side. The KIA ran off the left side of the road and stopped in a ditch.
Vincent and both passengers in the SUV were properly restrained and sustained moderate injuries. Both drivers and the occupants were transported to a Lake Charles area hospital.
Theresa Jones, 82 of Lake Charles was a passenger in the KIA and was properly restrained at the time of the crash. Jones sustained moderate injuries however, shortly after 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Louisiana State Police were notified that Jones had died from her injuries.
Toxicology samples were taken from both drivers for analysis. The crash remains under investigation. At the time of the crash, Vincent was cited for failure to stop at a stop sign. Additional charges are possible.
