Sheriff Sam Craft of the Vernon Parish Sheriff’s Office has announced crime statistics for Vernon Parish from 2018 and 2019.

There was recently a story circulating on social media indicated that Leesville was one of the 10 most dangerous cities in the State of Louisiana, however, the statistics clearly show that Vernon Parish is well below the national average in almost all categories of crime.

Sheriff Craft states that the Vernon Parish statistics were compared to the latest available national crime statistics data prepared by the FBI which was compiled from 2016.

Statistics show that Vernon Parish has a lower crime rate than the national average as shown in the graph on their facebook page. This report was compiled utilizing crime data for areas with a comparable population of 50,000 people.

During 2018 VPSO responded to 10,831 calls while in 2019 VPSO responded to 10,942 calls.

VPSO arrested or cited 2,676 violations in 2018 and 2,316 in 2019.

Narcotic arrests are included in these statistics and are included in the miscellaneous crime numbers.

The VPSO facebook page shows a categorized list of VPSO call response records.

Sheriff Craft remains committed to ensuring the safety and well being of the citizens of Vernon Parish.
