The Beauregard/Vernon Memorial Chapter 1138 of the Vietnam Veterans of America will hold a flag retirement ceremony in the War Memorial Civic Center parking lot in DeRidder starting at 12:00 p.,m. Wednesday, February 10, 2021.

The public is invited to attend and may bring flags that need retiring. According to flag protocols, the approved method of disposing unserviceable flags is by burning. The U.S. flag is a sacred symbol and burning it in an undignified manner constitutes desecration.

Elvin “Doc” Holliday, of Chapter 1138, said this event is in conjunction with the War Memorial Civic Center’s 80th anniversary celebration this year. The flags retired will include those collected from the public at a flag disposal box at the Beauregard Parish Police Jury office and by the DeRidder Fire Department.
