Vernon Parish School Board met at 10:00 this morning. Board members David Detz and Randy Martin were absent.
The Board approved a motion for the President to execute a contract with Strategic Demographics, LLC to provide reapportionment and redistricting services to the Vernon Parish School Board. Redistricting is a result of the 2020 Census.
Motions were approved to accept employee retirements, budget amendments related to personnel changes, and to pay claims.
The Board approved advertising for a non promotional assistant principal at Pickering and approved a performance contract for the Hornbeck High School Assistant Principal.
Col. Samuel Smith, Garrison Commander at Fort Polk addressed the Board:
- He was able to visit Pickering, Leesville Middle School and High School, Vernon Middle School and Parkway Elementary last week.
- The DOD re-naming committee was delayed by Hurricane Ida, but is expected to arrive sometimes near the end of the month.
- Fort Polk is in the final stages of rolling out the education narrative to provide incoming families with information on local schools, as well as the DODEA Virtual High School, which would allow military dependents to take online classes that are not offered locally.
Superintendent Williams shared that so far in the school year, COVID exposures have been relatively low.
Due to the Vernon Parish Forest Festival taking place the first week of October, the next school board meetings will be Thursday October 14 and Tuesday, October 19.
