The Vernon Parish School Board met at 9:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 12, 2021. Council members Angie Davis, David Detz and Shad Stewart were absent.
Treasure Manes from Hornbeck Elementary School was named Employee of the Month.
Meredith Campbell provided an insurance update for the Board: The insurance company is close to making a decision on the Hicks Gym. For athletic fields and local small repairs, the Board is welcome to use local companies. For other buildings, numbers are expected by March 15 – engineers are currently creating specification and drawings for all damaged schools. Ms. Campbell will be requesting a second check from the insurance company to cover the local contractors – it was suggested that all of the roof work be handled at the same time.
This is School Board Recognition month and east District had principals from their district share a statement about their representative. Superintendent James Williams closed that part of the meeting by signing a declaration recognizing January as the
School Board Recognition Month.
Joey Whiddon, Director of Food Service, acknowledged that all students in all school will continue to receive meals at no cost for the remainder of the year, but that application for free meals should still be processed as that reflects funding for future years where this option is not available.
Bill Lohman, Technology Administrator told the Board there are now Chromebooks for every student in Vernon Parish Schools with reserves.
Superintendent James Williams announced a recognition lunch in the School Board Building following the meeting.
The next meeting is scheduled for Thursday February 4 at 10:00 a.m.
