Governor Edwards mentioned HB 57 briefly in his statement Tuesday night following the legislative session.
This is an extensive tort reform bill by Speaker Schexnayder that will:
- lower the injury trial threshold from $50,000 to $10,000;
- amend collateral source, limiting medical damages;
- reform insurance coverage evidence; and
- allow evidence in court of seat belt useage.
The bill passed the Legislature with overwhelming bi partisan support. The bill is currently awaiting Governor Edwards signature.
