CLECO asks that if you are throwing away last year's lights as you decorate for this holiday season that you consider recycling them with CLECO and the Alexandria Zoo "Lights for Lions" Program.

This is the first ever holiday lights recycling campaign to help protect the environment by recyling the copper and plastic portion of the string lights, conserving energy by replacing the lights with energy efficient LED lights, and supporting the conservation efforts of the Alexandria Zoo.

As part of their conservation efforts, CLECO will match proceeds collected by the Friends of the Alexandria Zoo (FOTAZ) from selling the lights to a local recycling company up to $1000. FOTAZ will then donate the fund to the Wildlife Conservation Network Lion Recovery Fund, whose goal is to double the population of wild lions in Africa by 2050.

Bring your broken, old, non-LED string lights to the Alexandria zoo between now and January 13, 2020. There are recycling bins labeled “Lights for Lions” outside the front gates.
