A Louisiana State Police Trooper, Patrick Bell, 45, of Merryville, LA, was arrested for a Sunday, August 29, 2021 fatal auto-pedestrian crash that occurred in Jasper County, TX.

Bell, is charged with Intoxication Manslaughter after he was accused of driving a 2018 GMC Sierra pickup truck off of the westbound lane of Highway 63 West, just outside of Jasper, striking and killing Frederic Joshua Goleman, 59, of Jasper, who was walking on the shoulder.

Louisiana State Police said in a statement on Wednesday that Bell had been off-duty and on workers’ compensation leave since 2017. Prior to that, he had been employed as a state trooper since 2001.

Louisiana State Police said the Texas Department of Public Safety had received the results of a toxicology test performed on Bell, which showed him to be over the legal limit for intoxication at the time of the accident.

Bell was held in the Beauregard Parish Jail before being extradited to the Jasper County Jail.
