DeRidder Mayor Misty Clanton will be among the local and state leaders testifying Friday, September 18, 2020, before the Louisiana Legislature’s Joint Commerce Committee on Suddenlink connectivity issues following Hurricane Laura.

Residents and business owners around the state have expressed frustrations and concerns over the lack of connectivity.

Clanton is among the leaders who have pressed the company in recent weeks to provide improved services as the region recovers.

“Adequate Internet service is vital to our recovery process here in DeRidder and in Beauregard Parish. We have residents who need that connectivity to apply for disaster relief. We have businesses that are trying to get back on their feet that need service and are struggling. Our residents rely on this service to connect with their loved ones. This is not an accessory — this is a necessity and we need it to work,” Clanton said.

Residents can watch the Joint Commerce Committee hearing online starting at 1 p.m. Friday at legis.la.gov.
