DeRidder City Council

The DeRidder City Council met at 5:30 yesterday at DeRidder City Hall. All members were present except Councilwoman Reynolds. Dale Sappo addressed the council from the visitor's docket in support of Cheryl Robinson regarding the memorial street designation for Johnny Robinson.

Sergeant David Stannard II received recognition for 10 years service with the DeRidder Police Department.

An emergency ordinance was introduced and approved authorizing emergency work performed by Apek Construction on 8th Street for mobilization, point repair of an 8” clay pipe.

A public hearing was held for the ordinance providing the honorary designation of Johnnie Robinson Street to Rock Street. Councilman John Marcello suggested that instead of the temporary street designation that a memorial marker that would be permanent could be designed instead. Johnnie Robinson III, an Officer in Houston was spoke in support of the original sign. The vote by the Council was tied. Because it was not unanimous, the memorial street designation is off the table.

The final discussion, brought up by Councilman Hooper involves parking on Stewart Street. With parking on both sides of the street, it is too tight for 2 way traffic to pass. No action was taken at this time.
