DeRidder City Council met at 5:30 last night in DeRidder City Hall with all members present.
Sam Fulton and Charles Owen, both Candidates for State Representative spoke to the council briefly.
Ms. Dale Saffold addressed the Council with questions regarding striping on 4th street, fixing pot holes to last longer in her area and that when the City Council meeting is replayed on channel 19 and 20 there is enough static it is it difficult to hear.
SGT John Davison was recognized for 15 years of service with the City of DeRidder and the Council ratified Craig Richard as the new Chief of Police for the City of DeRidder.
Ordinances introduced include
- establishing a Veterans Service Office in DeRidder by the LDVA, the vote was unanimous;
- to amend the operating budget of revenues and expenditures for the fiscal year 2018-2019, the vote was unanimous;
- to have Windham and Reed audit the City of DeRidder's Financial Statements as of September 30, 2019. Councilman Williams abstained, all other votes were yes.
Public hearings for all of these ordinances will be August 26, 2019.
Public hearings were held for 2 ordinances.
The first was an ordinance amending chapter 4 article I, section 4-3 of the code or ordinances pertaining to permits. There were no comments from the public or the Council. The vote was unanimous and the ordinance was adopted.
The second was to amend the code of ordinances pertaining to truck routes. Ms. Dale Saffold noted that trucks were part of the problems with our roads, President Hooper explained they council is trying to keep them out of residential areas. The vote was unanimous and the ordinance was adopted.
Mayor Clanton recognized Queen Bolden for her dedication to the Mayor's Youth Council stating that over the 4 years she was a member, she was always at the events and ready to help.
Interim Police Chief Rudy shared that there were over 500 people at the National Night Out Event last week.
Lt. Col. Sonja Whitehead, Commander of the 519th Military Police Battalion shared that last night was her last meeting, she is headed out to the Pentagon and introduced the new 519th Commander Lt. Col. Shawn Keller. The Change of Command Ceremony is Friday at Fort Polk.
