The DeRidder City Concil met at 5:30 p.m. Monday, July 8, 2019, with all members present.
Taliyah Cockburn signed up to speak to the Council. Ms. Cockburn is a candidate in the National American Miss Pageant in Hollywood Thanksgiving weekend and has been operating a lemonade stand at the Y in Green Acres to raise funds for the pageant. The goal is to earn $10,000 to cover transportation, accommodations and other expenses. Mayor Clanton has a copy of the a letter describing her goals and will share copies with the council. Ms. Cockburn has an account at Pedestal Bank for donations above and beyond patronage at her lemonade stand.
Four ordinances were introduced, all of which were part of amending the Fire Code and enforcement penalties to meet current standards.
The first ordinance adopted the Life Safety Code as published by the National Fire Protection Association, the International Building Code, and NPFA 1 Fire Code.
The second ordinance sets up rules for establishing commercial fire lanes within the corporate limits of DeRidder.
The third ordinance establishes water supply standards for fire protection within the City of DeRidder.
And the Fourth Ordinance sets forth laws governing open burning, pits, BBQs and fire pits.
All ordinances will have public hearings at them meeting scheduled for July 22, 2019.
