Just after 1:00 Tuesday morning, July 7, 2020, Sulphur Police Officers noticed a 2006 Ford pickup truck headed West on I-10 that was pulling a trailer with a welding machine that was not secured causing sparks on the road.
When they stopped the truck, the driver, Sherees Franklin of LaMarque, TX, fled. Officers caught her after a short chase.
It was determined that the truck had been reported stolen out of Texas while the trailer and other items were reported stolen from local businesses. The truck and trailer were towed to the impound yard where Rowdy Runte, of Sulphur, a passenger in the truck when Franklin was arrested, jumped into the truck and stole it from the yard.
The vehicle was then located back on I-10 headed West and entered Texas where Runte struck another vehicle in Beaumont and ended up in the median. Runte also attempted to flee on foot but was arrested.
Runte was booked in jail in Texas and was charged with 2 counts of possession of stolen things, carjacking, and resisting an officer.
Franklin was booked in the Sulphur jail and charged 2 counts possession of stolen things, multiple traffic violations, and resisting an officer.
Both have other charges pending.
The Sulphur Police and the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office are working together with the recovered items. If you have had items stolen in the last few weeks please contact the CPSO.
